Born and raised in Wisconsin, Jim learned early the value of service to the community. As a teacher, Jim's dad served the children of the community for 30 years, teaching all types of the industrial arts, including woodshop, photography, and printing. The lasting impression his dad made on those kids also made a lasting impression on Jim. It showed him that above all else, making a positive difference in people's lives is life's greatest reward.
Jim spent most of his life in the business world, running small businesses in the restaurant industry before moving into a career in real estate. In those professions, he learned the value of hard work and making a budget. It also became clear to Jim that government's influence on the economy is often detrimental to the interests of the people they are supposed to serve.
While Jim believes in the importance of the services government provides, he also believes that the scope and size of government has spiraled out of control. Government that is closest to the people is best, and Jim believes that we must do our part to ensure that decisions are made at the lowest level of government possible.
